‘Voltron’ Reboot Series Coming This Year to Netflix

The Defender of the Universe is back.

A certain super robot piloted by five young heroes is returning to the small screen, and it isn’t Megazord.

The Hollywood Reporter confirms that Voltron will be rebooted as an animated Netflix original series later this year.

The Defender of the Universe’s return was made possible through a deal made between DreamWorks Animation (the owner of Voltron distributor Classic Media) and Netflix, which will bring more DWA series in the coming months, including Trollhunters from Guillermo Del Toro.

Rumors of a live-action Voltron film reboot has also been swirling around the web for years, but it looks like those plans (if any) have been put on hold.

Voltron: Defender of the Universe was originally a Saturday morning cartoon that aired from 1984-1985. The series followed five young robot lion pilots who would fuse their ships together to form the Jager-like Voltron to fight intergalactic evil.

90’s kids may remember Voltron: The Third Dimension, a continuation of Defender of the Universe with CGI visuals similar to Reboot, which aired from 1998-2000.

Whether you’re a fan of the original or late 90’s series, we’re excited to see what Netflix and DreamWorks will do with the new series.
