A New ‘Star Trek’ Series is coming to CBS in 2017

The series is set to exclusively air on the VOD platform CBS All Access in the US.

Great news, Trekkies! A brand new Star Trek series will launch in January 2017.

The new series will introduce all-new characters discovering new worlds in the spirit of the original 1966 show, as well as “exploring the dramatic contemporary themes that have been a signature of the franchise.”

Alex Kurtzman, who produced and co-wrote both of the recent Star Trek reboot films directed by J.J. Abrams, will executive produce the series, and his company, Secret Hideout will assist in production.

The next chapter of Star Trek is set to debut exclusively on the streaming service CBS All Access, making it the first CBS show to do so.

CBS All Access is currently a $5.99 a month service that offers all past and present CBS content, as well as every iteration of the Star Trek on television.

Star Trek, which will soon celebrate its 50th anniversary, has not been on TV since 2005 with the conclusion of Star Trek: Enterprise.

Since then, the series has found great success with the reboot/parallel timeline film series, which will continue with a third film, Star Trek Beyond, scheduled to release on July 22, 2016.

While a bummer that this series is set to exclusively air on CBS All Access, something we think will probably change, we are super excited to see Star Trek return to TV, and we look forward to some good old fashion interstellar adventures.
