Series creator Kurt Sutter says the new ‘SOA’ project will have a different tone and feel, with unique storytelling.

[dropcap size=small]T[/dropcap]he hugely popular and much-loved biker fueled drama Sons of Anarchy went out on a very big high last year. Raking in 9.26 million views for its seasons finale, and maintaining the highest rating views in FX history throughout its seventh concluding season, fans have been left wanting more.
With this in mind, and with so many rich characters and untold stories left from the SOA ‘verse, it wasn’t long before rumours began to circulate about a spin-off show in the works. Now it seems rumour has turned into reality, with news coming to light that series creator Kurt Sutter is in the early stages of putting together a spin-off that will centre on the Mayans Motorcycle Club; who were fronted by Marcus Álvarez (played by Emilio Rivera) in Sons of Anarchy.
The Mayans were one of the biggest antagonists of the series’ run, with two heroin factories and prostitution under their belt, they had quite a tumultuous relationship with main man Jax and SAMCRO.
Sutter has stated on Twitter that the ‘Mayan’ project will have a very different feel to Sons of Anarchy, and it will not be taking place in Northern California. Quite the tease.
Although the Mayan Project may intersect with SOA charters, it will be a very different show. Tone, pace, storytelling, will be unique.

Speculation about where in the timeline the spin-off will take place in correlation to the Sons of Anarchy has been leaning towards a precursor to the series, as Sutter hinted at the idea of a prequel at San Diego Comic Con last month. With nothing being confirmed as of yet on this, only time will tell.
It’ll be interesting to see what Sutter does with the Oakland-based motorcycle gang, but not much more has been revealed about the project, and further details are being kept under wraps for the time being.
