‘The Flash’ Will Feature Earth 2 Sooner than Later

Parallel dimensions and alternate versions of classic characters will be appearing shortly in the new season.

It looks like The Flash will be diving deeper into the DC comics’ mythos this upcoming season with the introduction of Earth 2, which will reportedly appear pretty early on.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, executive producer Andrew Kreisberg discussed some of the more “comic book” story elements that appeared in the freshman season of his hit show, like time travel and parallel dimensions. Kreisberg explained how he and the writers strived to make these more farfetched plot points easy enough for the average viewer to understand, but also complex enough for the big comic book fans.

With critics and fans, this approach seemed to have worked for the show last season, and according to Kreisberg, The Flash will dive deeper into the DC comics lore through Earth 2.

Kreisberg explains, “We’re trying to do the same thing this year with Earth 2 and the concept of the multiverse and the concept of doppelgängers . We’ve been having a lot of fun with that and getting glimpses of Earth 2 probably sooner than people would’ve thought.”

For those not caught up with the show (SPOILERS!), the first season ended with Barry running into a black hole, created through his time traveling, with the intension of stopping it, similar to the tornado he stopped in the first episode. While we don’t know for sure, it can all but be assumed that the black hole will strand Barry on Earth 2, where he will meet none other than Jay Garrick, an older alternate version of The Flash, who was hinted to be appearing in the season one finale.

With Jay Garrick already cast, along with another famous version of Scarlet Speedster, it’s looking like Earth 2 will play a significant role in the sophomore season of The Flash, and it will be interesting to (shortly) see how this new dimension affects the characters and storylines.

The Flash Season 2 premieres on October 6 for The CW.
