[dropcap size=small]A[/dropcap]t E3 earlier this summer, Hello Games revealed their first demo of No Man’s Sky! This game is massive and features an entire universe made up of 18 quintillion planets! That’s a lot of room for anyone that wants to travel the stars and explore an excess amount of planets! There are options to discover new forms of life or explore dangerous parts of planets, such as caves and oceans. But there are also other regions that you can explore, but you will be attacked if those who are controlling those regions want to be left alone. In that aspect, it can feel like you are playing Grand Theft Auto!
In a Q&A with IGN, Hello Games developer Sean Murray shared new information on different stars, natural disasters, and factions that have been added to No Man’s Sky! Players will be able to explore any kind of star in the game, some that are easy to find, others will be more of a challenge! Murray said that the players will have their own reasons for exploring different solar systems.Â
“We have a variety of different types of star, some of which are super rare, and you’ll start to realize they’ll tend to offer certain opportunities,” he explained. “In the videos already out there, as I zoom through the Galactic Map, you get glimpses of different types, sizes, and colors of stars, and, more interestingly, different formations.”
Murray was asked an interesting question in if No Man’s Sky will have any space incidents occur in the game, including black holes and supernovas.Â
“The rule we’ve set ourselves is that it’s a game first, not a simulation,” he wrote. “Space has to be fun, and everything you find in it should offer interesting ways of playing. So for instance, a black hole could be a really cool gameplay element, but maybe a supernova isn’t so much…”
Murray also said that the game will have natural disasters, even though he said the game is not meant to be a simulator. “Rain, dust storms, snow, blizzards, storms, and a bunch of other things [are] possible,” he explained. “There are also more alien weather types, effectively like radioactive and toxic hazards, and atmospheres made from different compositions to ours.”
