The Emmy Award winner will play recurring character Capt. Nathaniel Barnes in the show’s second season.
[dropcap size=small]M[/dropcap]ichael Chiklis is coming to Gotham. The actor, who won a Golden Globe and an Emmy for his role in The Shield, will play Jim Gordon’s Captain and mentor, Nathaniel Barnes. Barnes joins the GCPD to rid it of its ‘deadwood’, but he may have bigger problems on his hands, now that Cameron Monaghan’s Joker has been confirmed to be a big part of the show going forward. Showrunner Bruno Heller told THR that ‘that’s the big focus of the beginning of the second season. We’re going to tell the story of how the Joker came to be.’
As for Barnes, he might very well end up on the wrong side of the law himself following season 2’s ‘rise of the villains‘. TVLine reports that Barnes will ‘prove himself to be a strong ally to Gordon — but he one day may make for an equally powerful enemy.’
Gotham returns to Fox on September 21st.
