As if the cast wasn’t full enough, Suicide Squad just added rapper Common into the mix.
[dropcap size=small]A[/dropcap]ccording to The Hollywood Reporter, Common has closed a deal to join the cast of David Ayer’s Suicide Squad. The film has been heavily publicized since the recent reveal of Jared Leto’s portrayal of The Joker on top of the news of its massive ensemble cast that apparently isn’t done growing.
Suicide Squad will be the third film in the new DC/Warner Bros. film series slate that began with Man of Steel. Taking place in between Man of Steel and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, this new film will center around a team of incarcerated supervillains who assist the US government in exchange for lightened prison sentences.
The current cast consists of Will Smith, Jared Leto, Margot Robbie, Jai Courtney, Cara Delevigne, Joel Kinnaman, Viola Davis, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Ike Barinholtz, Jay Hernandez, and many others. It’s still a mystery as to who Common will be playing, but some rumors are pointing towards Aquaman villain, Black Manta.
JoBlo editor-in-chief Paul Shirey seems to have the inside information and tweeted it out.
Twitter grain-of-salt scoop per my source: Common may be playing Black Manta. #SuicideSquad

That would be cool. Jason Momoa’s Aquaman could probably use an attitude adjustment. Who better to dish it than Academy Award winning rapper Common? Obviously this isn’t anything official, but it’s fun to speculate.
If you aren’t familiar with Black Manta, you have to check this guy out. He’s a badass.
Other rumors are stating that Ben Affleck’s Batman and Jesse Eisenberg’s Lex Luthor could make brief cameo appearances in the film as well. You know, to round it out.
Suicide Squad is written and directed by David Ayer and is set to release in theaters on August 5, 2016.
