Goku Gets a “NEW” God Transformation in Resurrection ‘F’

It seems that Saiyan transformations are a dime a dozen, only this time, our hero Goku goes beyond a Super Saiyan God. And it only took one movie to do so!

In 2013’s Battle of Gods, Goku managed to power up to a new Super Saiyan transformation, the “Super Saiyan God” as it has been coined, though not without the help of several other Saiyans providing their energy (Goten, Trunks, Gohan, Vegeta, and the unborn Pan).

The Super Saiyan God transformation looked like Goku at his base state, only with red hair instead of black. If anything, the form looked similar to the Goku’s Kaio-Ken technique, only with more red across his hair.

In the upcoming Resurrection ‘F’, which sees an early premier date of April 11, and then a widespread release on April 18 in Japan (it comes to NA in English some time this summer), Goku goes beyond that of a Super Saiyan God, this time with a new hair style, and a new color to boot. Take a look below:

Goku’s new form looks similar to styles found in the fan-made Dragon Ball AF (April Fools) non-canon series.

Goku’s new transformation, which roughly translates to “Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan“, shows off what appears to be a hair style similar to Goku’s standard Super Saiyan 2 transformation, only with silvery-blue hair and a blue aura. The new Saiyan form is something Goku will need in order to take on and defeat his old nemesis, Frieza, who’s managed to be revived through the use of the Dragon Balls and transform into a whole new golden form, something that will surely give the Saiyans of earth, a run for their money.

This news comes from 2015’s 20th issue of Weekly Shonen Jump, and goes on to say that Goku’s new form will also be playable in the upcoming Dragon Ball Z: Extreme Butoden game, releasing in Japan this June (you can watch the trailer for Extreme Butoden and get news on the title here).

Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection ‘F’ shows the return of Frieza, coming to once again exact his revenge on the Saiyan race. There has been a lot of speculation that Vegeta would be taking the mantle of the Super Saiyan God and saving the day this time around, though with a new Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan transformation (what a mouthful), Goku is two Super Saiyan levels ahead of the prince of Saiyans, so it does not seem likely that the latter will become a Super Saiyan God and then a Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan (seriously, what a mouthful), but hey, anything is possible.

This Saturday on April 11, FUNimation is having an exclusive invite-only event, that will show Resurrection ‘F’ for the first time in its world premier in Los Angeles. The event, which will be hosted by FUNimation (Justin Rojas, Johnny Yong Bosch), will see the likes of Christopher Sabat (Vegeta, Piccolo, Yamcha), Sean Schemmel (Goku, King Kai, various), and Masako Nozawa, the original Japanese voice actor of Goku, all on the red carpet talking about their upcoming movie. Director Tadayoshi Yamamuro will also be there, talking about his experience putting Akira Toriyama’s vision together for the big screen.

With all the above said, and the high-demand for more Dragon Ball, Akira Toriyama has created two full-length feature films within the past two years that continue on the series of Dragon Ball Z (and ignore DBGT completely). New Super Saiyan transformations, new characters, and an expanded universe seeing the likes of Gods and deities, anything seems to be possible in the expansive world of Toriyama’s Dragon Fall manga/anime series!
