Melissa Benoist has been cast in CBS’s upcoming pilot for yet another DC Comics superhero, featuring none other than Superman’s cousin and fellow Kryptonian, Zor-El, aka Supergirl. Take a look at the images below.

The pilot for Supergirl, also stars Calista Flockhart (Cat Grant), David Harewood (Hank Henshaw), Chyler Leigh (Alexandra “Alex” Danvers), Mehcad Brooks (Jimmy Olsen), Faran Tahir (The Commander), along with Helen Slater and Dean Cain who both are currently in unspecified roles.
Designed by three-time Oscar winner Colleen Atwood, the Supergirl costume is just one more superhero design to be placed under Atwood’s resume. Her other costume designs include that of CW’s Arrow and The Flash, though her big screen credits include Chicago, Alice and Wonderland, and Memoirs of a Geisha (which all three Oscar wins are attributed to).

The pilot episode will undoubtedly turn into a reasonably lengthy franchise for CBS, though it is not currently known whether or not if Supergirl will crossover with The Flash and Green Arrow, but keep in mind that if it is possible, that would open up the doors for all sorts of spinoffs and character introductions as Kryptonians are alien, and have many enemies. Plus, of Zor-El is around, then of course that means that Clark Kent, Kal-El, Supes himself would also be within the DC Televised Universe.
A November issue of Entertainment Weekly via (KsiteTV) shared this about the possibility:
Later in the afternoon at his other office on the Warner Bros. lot, Berlanti meets with fellow producer Ali Adler and Oscar-winning costume designer Colleen Atwood to go over looks for their upcoming revamp of Supergirl. The show will follow 24-year-old Kara Zor-El, Superman’s cousin, and with a twist that that could melt fanboy brains, Berlanti says it’s possible this Supergirl could enter the worlds of Arrow and The Flash.
No news yet on when Supergirl will air on our TV screens, but rest assured it will certainly be in a flash, or faster than a speeding bullet, or… You get the point.
