[dropcap size=small]D[/dropcap]espite originally announcing via Twitter that Mortal Kombat X players would not need subscriptions to Xbox Live Gold or PlayStation Plus to utilize the game’s online mode, producer Shaun Himmerick has since deleted his tweets and confirmed that subscriptions are in fact needed.
While NetherRealm, the studio behind MKX, announced that online play would be very different for this entry in the legendary fighting game series, that unfortunately does not mean that users will not need a subscription. But the game’s online play will include new features like Living Towers and Faction Wars. Check out the video below from GameSpot for more details on the new online features.
The news that an online subscription would be required to play the game’s online modes is not exactly surprising because it’s commonplace that users need either XBL Gold or PS Plus to access their favorite games’ online features, but it was definitely confusing that one of the game’s producers initially said otherwise.
