[dropcap size=small]I[/dropcap]n case there was any question about the popularity of Grand Theft Auto V, the title’s parent publisher, Take-Two Games, has just reported from the final quarter of 2014 that the title has shipped more than 10 million copies for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. The HD version of the game was released on November 18, so it was able to hit that milestone in just six weeks. Pretty impressive.
Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick commented on the company’s success over the past year, which is due in part to the GTA series, as well as games like NBA 2K15 and the Borderlands franchise:
“With our world-class creative teams, robust development pipeline, cutting-edge technology, and ample capital resources, Take-Two is superbly positioned to build on its solid foundation and continue to capitalize on this dynamic entertainment market.”
GTA V was originally released for PS3 and Xbox 360 in September 2013, and with the sales from the next-gen consoles, this total has reached over 45 million copies. After being faced with two delays for the PC version of the game, the title will finally see a release later next month, which is sure to push the number of copies close to 50 million.
Are you surprised by the numbers that GTA V has put up or do its sales reflect the game’s quality? Tell us in the comments!
Grand Theft Auto V is currently available for PS4, PS3, Xbox One, Xbox 360, and the PC version hits stores on March 24.
