Will Colin Farrell play Constantine in ‘Justice League Dark’?

If so, we’ll see our third Hellblazer in 10 years.

The long rumored Justice League Dark may finally see the light of day, and with it, a new John Constantine.

Latino-Review reports that Warner Bros. and DC are beginning preproduction on Justice League Dark, an adaptation of the titular supernatural anti-hero team.

The leader of this team in the comics is often occultist detective John Constantine, and the frontrunner for this role is apparently Colin Farrell.

Farrell, who is currently filming the Harry Potter spin-off Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, is the top choice at Warner Bros. because they want A-list talent to spearhead the film. However, Obi-Wan himself, Ewan McGregor, has also apparently been approached for the role.

Justice League Dark has been in development as early as 2012, when it was reported that Guillermo Del Toro was working on a script. Recently, the film appears to have been fast-tracked into production by Warner Bros. so that their DC cinematic universe can expand. Del Toro is reportedly no longer on the project, but his script was well received at the studio.

John Constantine, aka Hellblazer, has been previously adapted to both the small and big screen. First, Keanu Reeves portrayed him in the 2005 film Constantine, and just recently by Matt Ryan in Constantine for NBC. Constantine was cancelled after its first season last year, but Ryan returned to portray the character on Arrow just recently.

In the same story, it was reported that Warner Bros. is also starting to cast the other members of Justice League Dark. These characters from the team that will appear in the film include Swamp Thing, Deadman, Zatanna, Etrigan The Demon, and Madame Xanadu.

So far, Del Toro’s pick for Swamp Thing, Ron Perlman, is the only casting choice for these characters that may actually happen. Any excuse to get Perlman into a prosthetic suit like Hellboy is fine with us.

While Warner Bros. has not confirmed these reports, we are excited to see Constantine return to the big screen, especially on a team.

We’ll be sure to let you know when more Justice League Dark news arrives.
