Director Tim Miller left Deadpool 2, allegedly wanting a “Mega-Budget Superhero” film

[dropcap size=small]W[/dropcap]hen it comes to producing a sequel to an incredibly popular film like Deadpool there is quite a bit of pressure to either create a film that is just as good as the original or improve upon it. With Deadpool 2 there isn’t much, if anything, that needs to be improved upon. The film made an astounding $780 million worldwide on just a $58 million budget ($7 million was slashed from the film and look how great it turned out to be) and so instead of changing anything it would be best to stick to what worked the first time, right? Unfortunately, it appears that Tim Miller didn’t agree.

According to the Wrap, there were major creative differences between the original writers of Deadpool (Rhett Reese, Paul Wernick, and Ryan Reynolds) and director Tim Miller. Tim Miller wished to create a sequel that could compete with the blockbuster hits that Marvel has produced thus far. One of the Wrap’s sources that are close to the project claimed that the vision Tim Miller had in mind would cost nearly three times as much as the original film did, something 20th Century Fox surely did not agree with.

With that said, it makes little sense as to why Tim Miller would want to change the DNA of what made the first film so successful. Even further, claiming that he wanted the film to rival other films that were incredibly popular in the Marvel Cinematic Universe makes very little sense. Deadpool has made more money than at least nine films in the Marvel Cinematic Universe which means that Deadpool not only competed with Marvel’s films but the film did better than several of Marvel’s best films.

Nonetheless, it is sad to see director Tim Miller go. The man certainly helped the film in a variety of ways that contributed to Deadpool‘s ultimate success and finding a director who can do the same will be difficult for 20th Century Fox.

In the beginning the Universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and is widely regarded as a bad move.
