The gameplay trailer for Just Cause 3 shows off a massive open-world environment, plenty of destruction and anything that could explode absolutely does.

[dropcap size=small]T[/dropcap]he only limit to what can explode in Just Cause 3 is your own imagination. The footage in the gameplay trailer for the highly anticipated game displays an abundance of explosions, a military jet being hijacked and deadly vehicle combat scenarios. The developer for Just Cause 3, Avalanche Studios, impresses everyone with what they’ve created.

It has been five years since Just Cause 2 was released and the wait for Just Cause 3 has definitely been worth it. Rico “The Scorpion” Rodriguez returns once again to dispose of an oppressive dictator, causing as much chaos and destruction as he can to get the job done. Rico also returns with a slightly different look and new tools at his disposal judging from the gameplay trailer.

With a beautiful sunset sky in the background we see the first new tool Rico has at his disposal, a wingsuit/glider of some sort. Instead of using just his parachute and grappling hook to get around, Rico can now glide through the air covering vast amounts of ground in short time while achieving intense high speeds. The location of Just Cause 3 takes place in Medici, a tropical island and mountain island of sorts. Unfortunately, Medici will not be larger than Just Cause 2’s Panau. The game’s overall world is rumored to be the size of 400 square miles, divided into three different zones.

Just Cause 3’s primary antagonist is General DiRavello, an oppressive dictator that Rico has to take down. Judging from the gameplay trailer General DiRavello has a lot of armed men between him and Rico. But no worries! Rico, who seems to have a new grizzled and rough look to him, not only has a large array of cars at his disposal. He also has a diverse collection of aircraft that he can use to take down his opponents.

Avalanche Studios founder and creative director Christofer Sundberg at this year’s Game Developers Conference said, “We’re designing a game that constantly encourages exploration and challenges players not to break the game, but explore the game. I like to see our players as anarchists. You can’t really tell them what to do. If you tell them to go right, they will absolutely go left. Or up and down, in this case. So, design a game that really encourages experimenting and exploring and not trying to set up rules for the player. Because many games try to limit. It’s sort of a caged freedom. For us, we have this motto: ‘If you can see it, you can go there. And if you poke it, it reacts.’ That is something that we’ve developed over these 12 years that we’ve existed. That we should never have any boundaries for the player. I’d like to just give the world to the player and let the players take off and do whatever they want.” With a description like that Just Cause 3 will attract players who enjoy playing games like Grand Theft Auto and Saints Row.

Just Cause 3 will be released on PS4, Xbox One and PC sometime during holiday 2015.
