The third film in the Star Trek franchise has received a new release date two weeks later than expected.
The third installment of the modern remake franchise of Star Trek has finally received a release date. The film titled, Star Trek: Beyond was originally given a release date of July 8th late last year, but it was announced that the film will be pushed back two weeks for a new release of July 22nd, 2016. The film will hit theatres the same weekend as Warner Bros.’ King Arthur and Fox’s animated sequel Ice Age: Collision Course.
Star Trek is coming up on its 50th birthday since its original release on NBC on September 8th, 1966. The first two reboot films had great box office results being directed by J.J. Abrams in 2009 and 2013. The third film will be directed by Justin Lin and will star Chris Pine and Zachary Quinto, both of whom starred in the first 2 films. Lin has had great success in the past directing the 3rd-6th installments of the Fast and Furious franchise. He has some pretty big shoes to fill after the success of the first two Star Trek films, so we will have to wait and see if the movie will live up to the fan’s expectations.
