Things do not seem to be going all that well for Ubisoft on the subject of the Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake. The remake had been announced back in September 2020 and has been delayed multiple times since. Now, Ubisoft is claiming that while the game is most definitely still being developed and “not cancelled“, they have gone ahead and canceled pre-orders. If that isn’t a telltale sign, I don’t know what is.
The news was first shared by Ubisoft directly in a blog post last week under the ‘State of the Game‘ bullet point. However, just a few bullets down, Ubisoft adds that pre-orders have been canceled with refunds being issued due to the fact that there is no release date in sight.

We had really high hopes for the Sands of Time remake, considering if it did well enough, there was a reasonably good chance that its sequels could see the same remake treatment if sales were solid. Now, all this negative buzz around the game leaves us to believe that Ubisoft Montréal, who is in charge of developing the remake, has bitten off more than they could chew.
With so many delays, it feels like the game has a high probability of being scrapped. Because, and let’s be honest, if Ubisoft is issuing refunds, the chances this game actually gets released seems less and less likely. But hopefully, we are wrong…
