Differences with ideas for the movie led to Gordan-Levitt’s departure!

[dropcap size=small]S[/dropcap]truggles continue for everyone involved in creating a solo movie for Neil Gaiman’s Sandman, including a roulette of writers, directors producers and studios. This last weekend, they may have taken their biggest hit as actor/producer Joseph Gordan-Levitt decided to leave the set. Gordan-Levitt posted his decision on Facebook:

“A few months ago, I came to realize that the folks at New Line and I just don’t see eye to eye on what makes Sandman special, and what a film adaptation could/should be,”

“So unfortunately, I decided to remove myself from the project. I wish nothing but the best for the team moving forward.”

Gordan-Levitt’s role was to produce and potentially star in the movie, but it looks like we won’t be seeing that idea through. This follows Warner moving all of their developing films made by DC’s Vertigo imprint from their main studio over to New Line.

If there’s any good news coming out of this from this, Eric Heisserer has been hired and will be working with producers Gaiman, David Goyer, Walter Hamada and Dave Neustadtler to come up with something that will get this movie pointing in the right direction.

What do you think of Joseph Gordan-Levitt leaving The Sandman movie project? Let us know in the comments below?
