A reported deal between Marvel and Fox will see the companies swap the rights for X-Men TV shows and the FF.
UPDATE: Sorry everyone, this rumor has been debunked. 20th Century Fox has confirmed to comicbook.com that they still have the rights to Fantastic Four. Bummer.
Fantastic Four fans rejoice! It appears as though the foursome will finally join the Avengers in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Den of Geek reports that Fox and Marvel Studios have worked out a deal that will allow the Fantastic Four to return to Marvel, and give Fox the rights to create X-Men television shows.
Following the atomic bomb that was Fant4stic, this deal has been rumored for some time, and was nearly solidified recently when the two companies formed a deal which will allow Fox to create shows based off Hellfire and Legion.
Hellfire will be based off of the Hellfire Club, supporting villains in the X-Men universe, featured in First Class; and Legion will focus on Professor Xavier’s estranged son David Haller, who’s multiple personality disorder allows him to have multiple mutant powers.
As Hellfire and Legion are both X-Men properties, these two shows are presumably a part of the Fantastic Four deal.
Den of Geek also reports that deal will allow characters associate with FF to return to Marvel, so that means the Silver Surfer, Galactus, and Dr. Doom. The “Galactus in Avengers 5” hype begins now, people.
Finally, the last detail of this deal is that Marvel Studios has already decided when we’ll see the Fantastic Four make their debut in the MCU. According to the source, they will appear in one of the three scheduled films for 2020.
Both Fox and Marvel have yet to confirm if this deal is legitimate, so take this news with a grain of salt.
However, with the announcement of Hellfire and Legion, as well as Marvel confirming three mystery 2020 films, it really looks like Fantastic Four may come to the MCU, and hopefully receive the treatment they deserve.
