The popular Studio Ghibli, Hayao Miyazaki film gets retold in under 4 minutes using 8-Bit sprites and cinematic effects. And it is WAY COOL!

A lot of things will certainly be left out of the 2 hour+ movie, as it has been cut down to 3.5 minutes, but fans of the anime film will not miss a thing in this neat short using 8-Bit techniques.

“8-bit Cinema “gamifies” your favorite Hollywood Blockbusters into 80’s arcade and NES inspired action! CineFix presents Princess Mononoke retold via old-school 8-bit (and a little 16 bit ;) game tech. No quarters or controllers required, just some Studio Ghibli awesomeness mixed up with old-school style!!”

Originally released in 1997 in Japan, Princess Mononoke tells the tale of Ashitaka, a young boy who was cursed while attempting to save his village from a demon attack. Along his journey to save himself, he reaches Irontown, and confronts a military plot to kill the Spirit of the Forest and decimate the land. He is joined by Princess Mononoke, the adopted daughter of the Wolves, and together they set out to save the forest and its inhabitants from certain destruction.

Princess Mononoke currently sits at number 13 on the list for the highest grossing anime films of all time, just under 2013’s Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods (12) and above 2002’s Pokemon 4Ever (14). It was the highest grossing film in Japan in 1997, but received next to no marketing at all when re-released in 1999 in the United States having been in an extremely limited run in under 10 theaters total. However, the film went on to becoming the top-selling anime in 2001 in the U.S.

The film was released on Blu-Ray by Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment on November 18, 2014.
