Once more, the hunt for Charizard begins.
The Pokémon Company will stop at nothing to recreate the Pokemania of the late 90’s for their 20th anniversary, as the latest way they are celebrating is by re-releasing the first set of Pokémon cards.
A collection of the original Base Set of Pokémon cards will be available to purchase later this month…in Japan.
That’s right, unfortunately, this reprint is currently only confirmed for Japanese Pokémon fans. (It’s not fair; they get all the cool stuff.)
The official trading card game’s Japanese site confirms this release will consist of a 60 card pack, including a player’s manual and collectible coin; very similar to the American 2-Player Starter Set that came with a holographic Machamp card.
Nostalgia.
The set will hit Japan on February 27, the same day as the 3DS Virtual Console release of the original games.
While we’re bummed there is no international release, we have hope, as the TCG continues to have a sizable community throughout the world.
Many us on the site have fond memories of the trading, bragging, and begging parents for money, that came with the original Pokémon cards when they were initially released. Now as 20-somethings, and just as broke as when we were 7, we’d love to relive those old memories.
Plus, I still need a Clefairy card…anyone willing to trade?
