Over the last few years, Netflix has shown a strong devotion toward turning manga/anime franchises into live-action abominations that piss off every fan worldwide. They have done it to Cowboy Bebop and Death Note (which they are going to do a second time), and are likely going to do so once more with their upcoming live-action One Piece series.
Despite the fact that fans aren’t happy with Netflix’s vision for their favorite manga and anime franchises, you have to hand it to them that they really went all-out on the sets for One Piece here. In a sneak peek they released on YouTube, you can see how dedicated the workers are to bringing this world to life.
Take a look.
You would think that all the criticism that Netflix has received that they would know when to quit when they are so far behind but the fact that they keep on with such determination says a lot about their desire to nail one of these shows in the right ways to please fans and not to a cross, so to speak.
For what it’s worth, Iñaki Godoy seems to be the living embodiment of Luffy, the main character of the series, so that is a decent sign at least. Of course, fans are likely divided on this as well as they always will be on the subject of casting for these types of roles.
Joining Godoy is his merry band of Straw Hat Pirates played by Emily Rudd as Nami, Mackenyu as Roronoa Zoro, Taz Skyler as Sanji, and Jacob Gibson as Usopp with Peter Gadiot as Shanks.
No word yet on the release date to stream the live-action One Piece series or when to begin to feel disappointed. Might as well start now.
