Marvel also comments on possible spinoff with The Punisher!
[dropcap size=small]A[/dropcap]fter seeing Daredevil’s first season become a success, Netflix CCO Ted Sarandos announced that there is a plan set with Marvel to continue having Marvel TV shows at the TCA (Television Critics Association). With Daredevil, Netflix also has plans to have TV shows for Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist. After all these heroes get their debut on Netflix, there should be a crossover show, combining all the heroes, to create a show about The Defenders! But what’s the time frame for each show to be released?Â
Said Sarandos, “I think ideally there will be a rhythm of about every six months you’ll get a new season or a new series from the Defenders group. And then they’ll crossover into a combined [Defenders] season once we’ve launched the first season of each of the four characters.”
Daredevil is already getting a second season, but Sarandos didn’t say whether all the other heroes were getting a second season. Sarandos did say “Some will selectively have multiple seasons as they come out of the gate. So they’ll probably be two launches a year.”
The next hero to come out on Netflix will be Jessica Jones, who will make her debut at the end of the year! Luke Cage (played by Mike Colter) will have his intro, at some point, during the Jessica Jones series. There is nothing set for when the fourth hero series, Iron Fist, will come out or who the star actor will be. Sarandos said, “Hopefully soon,” adding, with a laugh, “It’s always a little extra complex with Marvel in announcing things.”
Daredevil season two is already scheduled to be released on Netflix, with the big news being that Jon Bernthal will make his way into Hell’s Kitchen as The Punisher! With all these heroes that are planning to get spinoff shows of their own, could The Punisher possibly get his own Netflix spinoff? Said Sarandos, “It is possible for sure. That’s the beauty of the Marvel universe.” He also added, regarding all the Marvel characters in play on Netflix, “Any of them could spin out into films too.” Check out IGN’s video on their take of a possible Punisher spinoff!Â
