There are big things in store for the two ex-Avengers/SHIELD agents.
If you’ve seen Avengers: Infinity War than you know by now that both Captain America and Black Widow didn’t necessarily have that much screen time or that big of a role to play in the film. And that makes sense, all of Tony Stark’s fears regarding another alien invasion have been the overall backdrop and foreshadowing for what was to come. That said, it appears that things are going to change when it comes to the next untitled Avengers film, commonly known as Avengers 4.
Speaking to The New York Times, Avengers 4 screenwriters Markus and McFeely promised they’re “never writing without knowing where the end goes,” and despite the fact that Steve and Natasha were not fighting Thanos on an intergalactic basis in Infinity War, they “have a much bigger role to play in that second film.”
Following the snap of Thanos’ finger, a very large amount of Marvel heroes have ceased to exist and the remaining heroes are essentially the original members of the Avengers. With Tony Stark stuck on Titan with Nebula, it wouldn’t be that surprising to see Captain America assume the role of a leader for the team on Earth and Black Widow will be there to help him call the shots. However, with the recently released synopsis for the next film which states, “A culmination of 22 interconnected films, the fourth installment of the Avengers saga will draw audiences to witness the turning point of this epic journey. Our beloved heroes will truly understand how fragile this reality is and the sacrifices that must be made to uphold it” you can probably guess that either Cap or Natasha might be the ones making a ‘sacrifice’.
