Marvel Announces Phase 3 Films Through 2019: Black Panther, Captain Marvel, Inhumans

[dropcap size=small]A[/dropcap]t a special announcement event at the El Capitan Theater in Hollywood on Tuesday, Marvel made some big waves by releasing their “Phase 3” film slate through 2019, which includes some new characters getting introduced in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Marvel Chief Kevin Feige was on-hand to reel off the titles of the forthcoming films, and their scheduled release dates

First, it has been officially confirmed that Iron Man and Captain America will indeed duke it out on May 6, 2016. The latest installment in the Captain America series gets the official title Captain America Serpent Society Captain America: Civil War.

CIVIL WAR

 

Doctor Strange gets an official release date of November 4, 2016. Despite recent reports that Benedict Cumberbatch will play the Master of the Mystic Arts, no official statement was made on his casting during the event.

Following Strange, a new release date was revealed for Guardians of the Galaxy 2. Originally slated for a July 2017 release, Guardians of the Galaxy 2 has been bumped up for an official release date of May 5, 2017.

Just a little over two short months after Guardians of the Galaxy 2, Chris Hemsworth and Tom Hiddleston return for Thor: Ragnarok for a July 28, 2017 release.

Perhaps one of the more exciting reveals is that on November 3, 2017 — we finally get a Black Panther film. Chadwick Boseman, who recently played Jackie Robinson in 42 and James Brown in Get On Up, has been confirmed to play the eponymous hero.

As an added treat, Marvel released the cinematic design for T’Challa himself.

Marvel also announced another new hero joining the cinematic universe, and the first stand-alone film with a female lead. July 6, 2018 sees the release of Captain Marvel. The film will feature the Carol Danvers incarnation of Captain Marvel. Feige stated that the film had been in development about as long as Guardians of the Galaxy.

Also in 2018, Marvel gets yet another superhero team film in Inhumans. Inhumans is slated for a November 2 release.

Finally, two more Avengers films are coming our way in the form of a two-part event. Avengers: Infinity War Part One hits theaters in May 2018, with Avengers: Infinity War Part Two following a year later in May 2019.
