Mark Hamill Appears on ‘Star Wars VIII’ Film Set

Luke Skywalker himself reports to the Emerald Isle for filming.

Last week, reports came out that filming for Star Wars: Episode VIII would begin this month at the Skellig Michael Island in Ireland.

Since then, filming has indeed begun, and it appears that a certain Jedi has been spotted on set.

According to the Irish Examiner, Mark Hamill was seen along with cast and crew members leaving the film’s set a few days ago, as poor weather conditions temporarily halted filming.

Afterwards, Hamill was spotted at Bridge Bar in Portmagee, Ireland, having a few pints and taking pictures with fans.

Let’s back up though; so what does Luke Skywalker showing up in Episode VIII mean for the new Star Wars trilogy?

Well, we still don’t know much about Skywalker’s role in The Force Awakens, other than he will indeed appear, but if he really is in the sequel, that means one of two things:

Luke is alive and well after the events of The Force Awakens; or he dies, and returns as a Force ghost a la Obi Wan in Empire or Jedi.

Either way, don’t let speculation get the best of you just yet. After all, The Force Awakens is now only three months away!

Star Wars: Episode VIII comes to theaters on May 26, 2017, and The Force Awakens will arrive on December 18.
