The Power Rangers cast are hoping for a female Green Ranger.
[dropcap size=small]A[/dropcap] few hours before the release of the new Power Rangers movie, a tasty little teaser of the Green Ranger’s helmet was published on the studio’s official Twitter page. Such a tease no doubt hints at the evil Power Ranger’s involvement in the inevitable sequel we’re sure to see, and what’s more, the helmet could very well belong to a female version of the Green Ranger.

Tommy Oliver, who was the original alter ego of the Green Ranger, made his first appearance in the five-part episode “Green With Evil“, which ran in the original Mighty Morphin Power Rangers series back in 1993.
According to reports, the film’s cast have been lobbying for a female Green Ranger. Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter (via Screenrant), Dacre Montgomery (Red Ranger) explained that the cast has been hoping a woman will play the Green Ranger to balance out the male to female ratio of Rangers in the next movie:
“A lot of the cast and I have discussed that we think it should be a girl. It makes it even three girls, three boys.”
*Spoilers Ahead*
Tommy’s name is clearly called out during an after credits scene, which does hint that we’ll be seeing Tommy in the next movie. Having said that, Tommy could feasibly be used as an uncommon nickname for a woman, so it doesn’t entirely right-off the possibility of a female Green Ranger. Additionally, Montgomery feels the after credits scene was left open enough for a woman to fit the bill:
“It’s left blank. It’s a cliffhanger. Whoever you’re going to drop into that position — whether it’s a girl, it’s inevitably going to create drama. It’ll be interesting to drop that drama into it and see how we all relate to it and work with it.”
Whether or not they’re male or female, we’re sure to see a Green Ranger stirring things up a bit in the next movie.
