God Particle could be the title that connects all the Cloverfield films together.
[dropcap size=small]D[/dropcap]irector and producer J.J. Abrams is said to have been working on building up a “Cloverfield Universe,” and evidence of such a world being established can already be seen thanks to the release of 10 Cloverfield Lane earlier this year. Cloverfield Lane, which was referred to as a “blood relative” of Cloverfield, took place in the same world as the first, but didn’t directly link to the plot of its predecessor.
It is however unclear if the third film will be a sequel or prequel to either titles, or if it will be another “blood relative” set in the same world. Abrams did express his interest in a third Cloverfield movie during a press day for 10 Cloverfield Lane back in February this year. J.J. hinted at a project they wanted to get a “shot” at doing, which could potentionally be used as a “cool” way to “connect the two movies”.
God Particle follows the story of a team of astronauts who make a shocking discovery aboard a space station, which leads them to fight for survival in an altered reality. The plot does sound suitabilty Cloverfieldesque, and if this film does turn out to be the very same project Abrams hinted would tie the previous two together, it’ll be interesting to see just how it’s done.
Julius Onah is set to direct the upcoming mystery horror, which will star Chris O’Dowd (I.T Crowd, Bridesmaids), Elizabeth Debicki (The Great Gatsby, Everest), David Oyelowo (Jack Reacher, Selma), Gugu Mbatha-Raw (Jupiter Ascending, Concussion), Daniel Brühl (Rush, Goodbye Lenin) and Ziyi Zhang (Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, Hero).
God Particle is set for release 24 February, 2017.
