Set for release in 2025, Ghost of Yōtei introduces a new protagonist, Atsu, and a fresh narrative set in 1603, more than 300 years after Jin Sakai’s story. The game takes place in the rugged lands surrounding Mount Yōtei in Ezo (modern-day Hokkaido), a region outside the control of feudal Japan, offering a new setting of vast grasslands, snowy tundra, and untamed wilderness.

An announcement trailer released today gives a brief look at the new world and its dangers, with more information on Atsu’s journey, the people she will encounter, and gameplay features to be revealed in the coming months. For now, you can check out the trailer for yourself below:

While story specifics remain under wraps, the development team is excited to explore a new origin story centered on Atsu, who will don the iconic Ghost mask this time around. Ghost of Yōtei will maintain the core pillars of exploration and open-world freedom established in Ghost of Tsushima while also introducing new gameplay mechanics, weapons, and innovations specific to the PlayStation 5. The game promises a visually stunning world, with improved sightlines, dynamic skies, and more lifelike environmental details, including wind-swept grass and lush vegetation.

Ghost of Yōtei is without a doubt the biggest announcement from today’s ‘State of Play’ event, where PlayStation shared a handful of details like the remaster for Horizon Zero Dawn, new PlayStation hardware cosmetics, a Legacy of Kain remaster, and more.
