Creative differences strikes again!
Poor Gambit…
This planned X-Men spin-off film has been having a rough pre-production, as for a while it looked like lead Channing Tatum was going to drop out of the film, and now recently, Rupert Wyatt has actually dropped out as director.
When the story first broke, scheduling was cited as the reason why Wyatt couldn’t direct the film, however, that didn’t make a lot of sense, as he wasn’t working on a project at that time.
Now, new reports indicate that creative control is the true reason why Wyatt left the project.
The Hollywood Reporter details that Wyatt left because his vision of Gambit didn’t match what 20th Century Fox had in mind. This wouldn’t be the first time a director of a superhero film and Fox didn’t get along (Fant4stic), so this isn’t out of the ordinary, and probably for the best.
However, THR also reports that Wyatt has been building a reputation in Hollywood for dropping out of projects, which he did for Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, after directing Rise of, so maybe Fox was just preparing for the inevitable.
Either way, Gambit is still in bad shape, as it has no director, and is supposed to come out close to a year from now. Now who will direct this movie?
I hear Josh Trank needs work…
Gambit will come to theaters on October 7, 2016. Maybe.
