[dropcap size=small]T[/dropcap]he incredibly popular anime Fullmetal Alchemist, based off of Hiromu Arakawa’s critically acclaimed manga series, is set to start production this upcoming June. Fullmetal Alchemist follows two young boys by the names of Alphonse and Edward Elric as they set out in search of the philosopher’s stone while making many friends and some dangerous enemies along the way. The boys hope that if they can acquire the philosopher’s stone they will be able to restore their bodies back to their original condition after both brothers attempted to use alchemy to bring their mother back to life with disastrous consequences that left Al without his body and Ed without an arm and a leg.

Both a director and an actor have been nominated for the live-action film. Fumihiko Sori (Ping Pong, Ashita no Joe) is set to direct the film and the actor Ryosuke Yamada (Assassination Classroom) will play Edward Elric. While no actor or voice actor has been nominated for the role of Alphonse Elric, you can be certain that the film will be using CGI to recreate his armored self. Let’s just hope that where the live-action film Attack on Titan failed miserably Fullmetal Alchemist will succeed, paving the way for more live-action anime films.

Fullmetal Alchemist will be released in Japan in2017
