Capcom might still be busy figuring out how to charge us $70 for another Resident Evil remake skin pack, but thankfully, fans continue to do God’s work. Case in point: the 2001 PC port of Mega Man Legends has been resurrected, repaired, and repackaged to actually run on modern machines, all thanks to Twitter user KuroRaiden—a hero Capcom didn’t ask for but absolutely needed.

Armed with DxWrapper and what we can only assume is an unhealthy amount of free time, KuroRaiden rebuilt the entire thing to work seamlessly on Windows 10 and 11. No more forced auto-fullscreen, no more praying to the compatibility gods, and—get this—the game now ships with high-quality WAV audio files ripped straight from the original PlayStation release.
That’s right, no more enduring the garbage-tier, potato-mic sound quality from the old PC port. Oh, and because KuroRaiden’s flexing on Capcom at this point, he also threw in Xinput-to-Dinput controller support.
And if you’re wondering about Steam Deck compatibility, KuroRaiden says it’s possible—but you’ll probably need to tinker with GE-Proton and other Wine layers. In other words, it’s doable if you’re willing to descend into Linux hell for a bit, which, let’s face it, Steam Deck owners were going to do anyway.
Until Capcom wakes up and realizes people would throw money at an official Mega Man Legends remaster, this fan-made repack is the closest thing to an actual preservation effort we’re gonna get. And honestly? It’s a rare chance to play a classic without having to battle your operating system like it’s a secret final boss.
