Get ready to cry…and scream?
Captain America: Civil War is gearing up to be the biggest, and perhaps even the best MCU film to date.
While the film won’t hit theaters for a couple more months, a handful of lucky folks have seen early screenings of the movie, and their responses were very positive, as well as interesting.
Birth.Movies.Death got to speak with a handful of these lucky audiences members, who shared their thoughts on the film with the site.
First off, they reported that the focus of the film is primarily on Steve Rogers and his relationship to Bucky Barnes, making this indeed a Captain America film, and not “Avengers 2.5,” despite the film’s robust cast.
The audience then explained “Spider-Man is great, and that the film doesn’t waste time on retelling his origin,” and that “Black Panther is phenomenal”. This is great news, as we’ve feared these characters would have brief cameos at the most, so it’s great to hear they’ll be around long enough in the film to make a strong impression.
The most fascinating response from this audience relates to the last half hour of the film, which was called “brutal, both physically and emotionally.”
In fact, an individual explained that “the last act plays out as an emotional horror movie because the film gives both Tony and Steve solid reasoning, and because it truly makes you feel the depths of this schism.”
While an interesting choice of words for sure, this report does indicate the film may indeed have complex and deep emotional depth, as the conflict between Cap and Iron Man is fleshed out from both perspectives, making the conclusion brutal for those who care about both characters.
Overall, the response from these audience members was very positive, and they “liked the film a lot.”
So will Civil War be an emotional horror movie? Will it surpass Guardians of the Galaxy or The Winter Solider as one of the best films in the MCU?
We only have to wait a little while longer.
Captain America: Civil War hits theaters on May 6.
