(But don’t tell Disney.)
We’ve said it before, and we’ll say it again: we love Deadpool.
Perhaps something we loved about the film that isn’t getting all that much attention is its various easter eggs. Besides Deadpool questioning which Professor Xavier exists in his timeline, or the numerous jabs at Green Lantern, there was a literally gigantic easter egg hidden in plain sight at the climax of the film: the Avengers Helicarrier.
Yes, the signature flying aircraft carrier used formerly by S.H.E.I.L.D., and now the Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, was apparently present during the final confrontation between Deadpool and Ajax.
If you didn’t recognize the Helicarrier, don’t worry, you weren’t supposed to.
According to io9, who talked with the concept artist who designed the carrier for the film, Emmanuel Shiu, the Helicarrier was redesigned, “so it looked as different as possible from the one in The Avengers. And it had to look like it had been taken apart in some places. “
The concept art in question has been removed from io9 per request of Shiu, and we think that’s probably for the best, as the last thing Ryan Reynolds and the rest of the Deadpool crew needs is Disney threatening to sue.
Regardless, this is a neat pseudo-easter egg, and we hope more tidbits like this are revealed.
Deadpool is now in theaters…but you probably knew that.
