[dropcap size=small]T[/dropcap]wo-time Academy Award winning actor, Christoph Waltz may be playing the villain in the currently untitled James Bond 24, after a rumor popped up that Waltz had signed on for an unspecified, albeit mysterious role to the sequel to last years Skyfall.
Waltz’s name is certainly one that is recognizable among many if not the majority of households, and his incredible performances in Tarantino’s Inglorious Basterds and his follow-up film, Django Unchained, have earned him the recognition as being one of the most talented actors in Hollywood presently.
Reports are suggesting the possibility of Waltz playing one of if not the most notorious Bond villains of all time, Ernst Stavro Blofeld. For those who are unfamiliar with the name, Blofeld was the mastermind behind the organization known as the Special Executive for Counter-intelligence, Terrorism, Revenge and Extortion, or SPECTRE for short. Blofeld and SPECTRE were behind the sinister plots of seven total Bond films, making him the most dangerous villain, even beyond Dr No and Goldfinger, respectively.
“If a rat were to walk in here right now as I’m talking, would you treat it to a saucer of your delicious milk?“
Though none of this is confirmed, the Bond Franchise has taken back the rights to the character Blofeld and SPECTRE after a lengthy legal dispute back in February of this year, which means that we may get a chance to see the iconic criminal mastermind and his organization real soon. Should all of this turn out to be true, and the way the existing plots of the current Bond films are taking direction in the form of sequels to one another, it could be possible to see Blofeld as a recurring character in future films.
Again, all of this is simply speculation, with none of this being entirely confirmed, only mere suggestion from reliable and credible sources. Though if it is true, this could be another benchmark performance from Christoph Waltz in one of the most recognizable and beloved film franchises of all time. Until we know more for certain, we will just have to wait and see as developments continue to move forward.
Sam Mendes returns to direct after the very successful Skyfall to direct the untitled Bond 24 (and it’s sequel Bond 25). The film stars Daniel Craig, Ralph Fiennes, and Naomie Harris with Christoph Waltz and Dave Bautista both being rumored.
