‘Captain America’ Star Sebastian Stan Fires Back at Zack Snyder’s Marvel Comments

Move over Civil War; there’s a Marvel and DC battle brewing.

Earlier this month, Batman v Superman director Zack Synder called his DC films “mythological” in scope, and Marvel films like Ant-Man just “flavor of the week.”

Unsurprisingly, Marvel fans did not take kindly to Synder’s remarks, and now it looks like a star from the MCU is firing back.

Sebastian Stan, aka Bucky Barnes, aka the Winter Solider of the Captain America films had this to say about Synder’s “jab” at Marvel films in an interview with Collider:

“I’m sitting here and I’m listening to you and I’m thinking, “Do I want to fire some shots at DC right now, at Zack Synder?” I read some of those comments where he said something about Batman and Superman, I can’t remember where I read that, somewhere… Something about, “It’s not going to be your flavor-of-the-week Ant-Man.” And I was like, “Oh thanks, Zack. That’s great. Way to do something original.” But I would say we’re still making something very original in our own way. I mean, the Russos are coming in and taking something people are used to and they’re shaping it up and changing it in a very different way. They’re not trying to mimic a better Christopher Nolan movie or something like that.”

That last line though…

Okay, but in all seriousness, both of these stars were pretty out of line with their digs at each other’s comic book universes.

Synder’s original quote was him mainly just saying that DC heroes are more well-known than smaller Marvel characters, like Ant-Man, but he didn’t have to go as far to call them “bubblegum;” and Stan’s retort was a fine response pointing out how directors like the Russo Bros. (The Winter Solider helmers) are keeping Marvel films fresh…but he didn’t have to jump off the deep end with that last line.

Will another DC star come and fire back at Stan? Will Marvel and DC destroy each in an epic off-screen battle? We’ll let you know if they do.

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice hits theaters on March 25, and Captain America: Civil War on May 6, 2016.
