The classic Sega Genesis we all came to love was close to getting a sequel for PS2!

[dropcap size=small]W[/dropcap]ay back when I was a kid, I remember having a Sega Genesis system playing classic games like Sonic the Hedgehog and Jurassic Park. When I saw news that a sequel almost came out for this game, it brought back some nice memories of Ecco the Dolphin. If you don’t remember the game, there’s gameplay of the first level for a refresher! Don’t even tell me that playing as a dolphin wasn’t badass back in the day! Most of us wish we could do awesome flips and swim as fast as Ecco.

The project to create the sequel was going to be for the Sega Dreamcast titled Ecco 2: Sentinals of the Universe, with a follow-up coming out for the for Playstation 2 called Ecco: Defender of the Future. The Hidden Place, a community group committed to preserving video game development, gives you the opportunity to put stills, footage and information together in order to create and maintain games.

The sequel never was finished, which is disappointing given how successful the first game was. The prototype that was found doesn’t have any sound or music in its gameplay. As for the graphics of the game, they don’t look bad, considering the system that it was going to be released to. Unreleased gameplay of the game can be found down below.

We can only imagine what a sequel would be like after seeing this footage. But now that it’s discovered, perhaps someone will take it upon themselves to finish it. Or maybe this game will only have Ecco the Dolphin, which has been remade a few times for the Nintendo 3DS, Xbox 360, and Wii. If you have seen any of the footage of things that have been created in Unreal Engine 4, I think this game would look pretty sweet in those graphics. Not bashing the classic game’s graphics by any means. Ecco the Dolphin will always be a great game with just the gameplay. Down below is a video of Kanto in Unreal Engine 4 and just imagining Ecco created in Unreal Engine 4. It would look amazing!

Would another Ecco game be appealing to you? Let us know in the comments below!
