While talking with David Ehrlich of Little White Lies, Bird was hinting at a possible classic Pixar sequel is in the works.

[dropcap size=small]T[/dropcap]here is a rumor going around that Tomorrowland director Brad Bird is writing a script for The Incredibles 2. Remember The Incredibles? The story of Mr. Incredible, who used to be a superhero, until a ton of lawsuits against superheroes were filed by the people they’ve saved. The government then had to hide them in the witness protection programs so they could lead safe boring lives.

As Bob Parr, he lived with his wife Helen, and their three children Violet, Dash, and Jack Jack. Bob was leading a normal life, but he was over his crap job, and fed up with his pushy boss. He knew that deep down his wife worked too hard to build a normal life for their family to go back to their old ways. Then Mr. Incredible was given the chance to play the role of hero again by a mystery person, but it turns out to be a trap set by an old nemesis, and the whole family must reveal their powers to save Mr. Incredible and countless innocent people.

Bird explained what challenges The Incredibles 2 movie might have. With the first movie being made before the big superhero boom, how is the sequel going to be fresh and funny?

I think that the greatest special effect is caring about a character. A lot of movies seem to forget that, and they bring out a lot of fireballs and then wonder why the fireballs don’t have that much impact, no matter how loud and how big they are. But the truth is that the fireball isn’t that exciting unless you care about the person running from it.”

“It can be fun, and certainly I had a blast getting to do the action sequences in The Incredibles, but that’s the dessert. Every movie is kind of a risk, and you’re thrown into a new pool and you haven’t learned how to swim in it yet, so I’m going to bumble along and make the same mistakes that I usually do and hopefully spot them and correct them. I really love those characters and that aspect of getting to be with them again is exciting to me.”

Tomorrowland will be coming out May 22, and Incredibles 2 should be out sometime next year 2016.
