Batfleck is both nervous and optimistic about his foray into the DC cinematic world.
One of the most anticipated films of 2016 (excluding a certain disagreement amongst friends) is undoubtedly Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.
The film will introduce a new Batman, played by Ben Affleck, to a growing DC cinematic universe.
While Affleck has proven himself a talent on-screen and off, even he is starting to feel the massive pressure that comes along with putting on the cape and cowl.
“I think there is a ton of pressure on it (Batman v Superman),” Affleck explained to Variety. “I mean I would be bulls—ting you to say there isn’t.”
Despite his worries, the Gone Girl actor is confident in Warner Bros., and more specifically, their shared universe DC comics films, which began with Man of Steel in 2013.
“They (Warner Bros.) are now developing … probably the single greatest under-exploited IP asset in the entertainment business, the DC comic world. And now they have started to exploit that and you are going to see that blossom. And, when it does, it’s going to be massive.”
This confidence in the DC films has led to speculation that Affleck will be appearing in a number of upcoming projects besides his confirmed cameo in Suicide Squad, and his commitment to the Justice League films. In fact, a standalone movie titled The Batman is reportedly set to release sometime in 2018.
Affleck concluded by speaking to the lofty expectations that come with a film where Batman fights Superman.
“We are a very kind of instant gratification culture when it comes to analyzing the film business. And there is a lot of hyperbole involved,” Affleck said. “Nonetheless, there’s a lot of pressure on it. If it doesn’t do well, that will be extremely disappointing.”
Here’s hoping we won’t be left disappointed, Mr. Affleck.
