In America, the movie that could only afford two X-Men will beat the movie that features the biggest DC characters.Â
2016 is going by fast, as two huge comic book films have already come and gone from theaters. Deadpool is coming to home video this upcoming week, and poor old Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is beginning to leave theaters.
But which film made more money?
In an article from The Hollywood Reporter, the box-office returns of both films are compared in-depth.
Currently, BvSÂ has grossed over $862.9 million globally, making it the seventh highest earning superhero film of all time. Deadpool on the other hand is sitting at 11th place on said list, with a total theatrical gross of $760.8 million.
However, domestically, meaning in the United States, Deadpool has made $361.8 million, compared to BvS, which only made $325.1 million.Â
So basically, Deadpool was a bigger hit in the U.S. than BvS.Â
We’re fairly surprised by this news, especially considering Deadpool’s R rating, but at the end of the day, it makes sense. Deadpool is a well-crafted, hilarious, as well as a surprisingly heartfelt film, and many, including ourselves, loved it.Â
The same can’t be said out Batman v Superman. Said film received very mixed reception (we weren’t big fans), and audiences weren’t in as big a rush to go back and see the film a second time as they did with Deadpool, as BvS dropped 69% in box office returns on its second weekend in theaters.Â
While Batman v Superman may make more money in the long run, we’re very proud of Deadpool, and very glad it found success.Â
Deadpool comes to Blu-Ray and DVD on May 10.Â
