[dropcap size=small]A[/dropcap]s previously reported, Bryan Singer is looking to recast the roles of Cyclops, Jean Grey and Storm for X-Men: Apocalypse. The film, which is to take place primarily in the 1980’s, is said to include younger versions of these key roles. Now, we may have some insight into who could potentially be cast as Cyclops and Jean Grey.

The Wrap is reporting that multiple sources familiar with the 20th Century Fox project have named Chloe Grace Moretz, Elle Fanning, and Hailee Steinfeld as the frontrunners to fill the role of Jean Grey. Meanwhile, Ben Hardy, Charlie Rowe, and Timothee Chalamet are on the shortlist to play a young Cyclops. Famke Janssen and James Marsden originated the respective roles in 2000’s X-Men film.

No official offers have been made. However, sources say that Singer has met with Moretz (Kick-Ass, Carrie) and Fanning (Maleficent) to gauge their interest. Steinfeld is best known for her role in 2010’s True Grit, for which she garnered an Oscar nomination. The three actresses are apparently not the only names in the running, and their interest in the project is not known.

The actors being circled for the role of Cyclops are perhaps not as well-known as the actresses on the studio’s Jean Grey wishlist. Hardy is best known for his portrayal of Peter Beale on the U.K. soap opera EastEnders. Chalamet appeared in Interstellar, and had a recurring role on Homeland. Rowe currently stars on the Fox series Red Band Society.

X-Men: Apocalypse will conclude the First Class trilogy that began in 2011. Therefore, it is not known if the actors stepping into these roles will appear in future installments of the franchise.

What do you think of these potential casting selections? Who would you like to see cast in the roles? Let us know in the comments below!

X-Men: Apocalypse opens May 27, 2016.
