Will Smith, Tom Hardy, and Margot Robbie Could Join DC’s ‘Suicide Squad’

[dropcap size=small]C[/dropcap]oming off the heels of Warner Brothers’ ten-film announcement laying out the future of the DC Cinematic Universe, there are some huge stars reportedly attached to the movie based around the group of supervillains known as the Suicide Squad. Initial reports by Deadline revealed that both Will Smith and Tom Hardy are heavily interested in the project and nearing a deal to bring to life the villains-turned-government operatives.

It was later reported that Scarlett Johansson has replaced Margot Robbie as the front runner for the lead in the DreamWorks adaptation of Ghost in the Shell, and now it looks as though Robbie could join Smith and Hardy for Suicide Squad. She appeared in last year’s The Wolf of Wall Street and stars opposite Smith in the upcoming rom-com-dram Focus, also for Warner Bros.

Smith and Robbie probably won’t be this flirtatious in Suicide Squad.

Given Smith’s knack for starring in summer blockbusters like Independence Day and the Men in Black franchise, and Hardy’s portrayal of Bane in The Dark Knight Rises, landing the actors for the proposed 2016 film could be a definite possibility. Fury director David Ayer is attached to direct the film, which is the second picture to be released in DC’s current schedule, following Zack Snyder’s Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice.

Here's hoping Hardy is easier to understand in this DC film.

Suicide Squad is less of a no-brainer than other upcoming films in the DCCU like Wonder Woman, The Flash, and Aquaman, but it is a good move by DC and Warner Bros. to highlight one of its less obvious properties. With the proposed acting talent that could soon be onboard, the film could prove to be a blockbuster in its own right.

What members of the Suicide Squad do you want to see in the film, and who else would you like to see added to the cast list? Let us know in the comments! We’ll have more casting news as it is announced.

Suicide Squad is currently set for a 2016 release date.
