When Sanshirō Kasama and Hikaru Uesugi, the creative duo behind the hit manga Deadpool Samurai, announced their new project Secret Steward, fans had no idea what was coming. Or, at least we had no idea. What seemed like a straightforward romantic comedy turned out to be a clever and hilarious setup for the reveal of more Deadpool Samurai manga.

Initially promoted as a romantic comedy, Secret Steward appeared to be a charming departure from the irreverent and action-packed world of Marvel’s Merc with a Mouth. The story followed a seemingly ordinary butler, or steward, and his mistress, leading readers into what looked like a typical romantic comedy narrative. However, as it turns out, Secret Steward was nothing more than an elaborate and brilliantly executed ruse—one that led to the unexpected and hilarious reveal of the upcoming Deadpool Samurai Season 2.

Just as readers were getting comfortable with the charming dynamics between the steward and his mistress, the manga took a wild and unexpected turn. What started as a romantic comedy was, in fact, a cover for something far more sinister—and far more exciting.

In true Deadpool fashion, the reveal kicked into high gear. Without any warning, Deadpool arrives on the scene in a van, smashing right into the unsuspecting steward in a gruesome hit-and-run. The violent and chaotic nature of the event, with body parts flying in all directions, was shocking and hilarious at the same time. Even though fans were expecting Deadpool to appear, the manner of his arrival was still a surprise.

A few pages later, the steward’s true identity is revealed to be a disgusting Mushi, a man-eating insect that had been planning to devour his mistress. Deadpool, of course, had been hired to put the creature down.

For those unfamiliar with Deadpool Samurai, the manga is a wild ride that sees Deadpool recruited by Iron Man to join the Samurai Squad, a new unit of the Avengers based in Japan. The first season of the manga, which ran from 2018 to 2021, was a massive hit both in Japan and internationally. Written by Sanshirō Kasama and illustrated by Hikaru Uesugi, the series brought Marvel’s beloved Merc with a Mouth into the world of Shonen Jump.

One of the most memorable moments from the first season was a jaw-dropping crossover where *My Hero Academia*’s All Might was pulled from the Multiverse to face off against Thanos. The manga was filled with unexpected and epic moments, blending the worlds of Marvel and Shonen Jump in a way that thrilled fans of both.

The success of Deadpool Samurai led to its western publication by Viz Media in 2022, further expanding its fanbase. The announcement of Season 2 has been eagerly anticipated, and while the exact release date has yet to be revealed, the creative team’s playful approach with Secret Steward suggests that it will be worth the wait.
