After we reported that Henry Cavill was allegedly set to return to the role of Superman in some reshoots of The Flash, which releases next year, the story seemed to be all the more plausible as the cat was let “out of the bag” so to speak, when Dwayne Johnson acknowledged Cavill’s cameo as Superman toward the end of his upcoming DCEU film, Black Adam. Now it seems that Cavill is set to come back in a more prominent role as Superman in a sequel to 2013’s Man of Steel.
According to reports, multiple DCEU film sequels are in the works which include the forthcoming The Flash which stars Ezra Miller, at least one or two new mystery projects from James Gunn, and allegedly ‘Man of Steel 2‘ (working title) with Cavill once again dawning the cape as Superman. And we owe it all to Black Adam star, Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson.
Johnson himself says that Henry Cavill’s absence and unknown future were largely due to mismanagement over at Warner Bros. prior to their merger with Discovery. Now, with new leadership, they are eager to bring Cavill back and try to steer the DCEU on the right course after so many failed attempts.
“I feel that this serves not only Black Adam but the entire DC Universe. More importantly than that, it takes care of the fans. And that’s what you want your lead foot to be. So, yes, phone calls, meetings… but, man this was years man. Six years to get that done. I’m going to say that again, six years we kept talking about this and they kept saying no. Now, that leadership isn’t there anymore and we usher in a new era of the DC Universe.”

As it turns out, the heads in charge over at Warner Bros. Discovery, CEO David Zaslav, along with the bosses of Warner Bros. Pictures, Pam Abdy and Michael De Luca, are working behind the scenes to make more quality DCEU projects that meet a higher standard with an emphasis on releasing theatrical films rather than lower quality exclusives for HBO Max. One such project is the sequel to Man of Steel but if that is the case, we may just see more, a lot more, of Cavill in DC Comics movies in the future.
Johnson has gone to great lengths in recent years expressing his strong desire to see Cavill’s Superman face his Black Adam in a movie involving the two of them, which explains his passion for fighting for so long to get Cavill back.
Whatever the case ends up being, and we firmly believe the above to be true, we are happy to hear that the new leadership at Warner Bros. is working hard to course-correct a rather disastrous shared superhero universe. The Justice League and all heroes under DC Comics deserve better, and so do the fans.
It is good to have you back, Mr. Cavill. We missed you.
