Sadly, the Destiny beta is now closed, but not before it provided action for more than 4.6 million players, according to Activision. Let’s break it down by the numbers.
The beta started on July 17 for Playstation 3 and Playstation 4, and then launched on Xbox 360 and Xbox One on July 22 – concluding the night of July 27.
Across the four consoles, there was a total of 4,638,937 unique players. Those numbers are easily enough to make it the biggest beta for this console’s generation, and one of the biggest ever, compared with:
- Halo: Reach (Xbox 360) – 2.7 million players
- Titanfall (Xbox One, PC) – 2 million players
- Halo 3 (Xbox 360) – 820,000 players
That also makes it, “The largest console beta ever for a new video game IP,” said Eric Hirshberg, CEO of Activision Publishing.
“We were totally blown away by the number of people who played the beta. We surpassed even our own goals and the feedback was invaluable,” said Pete Parsons, COO of Bungie.
Destiny is set to release on September 9 for Playstation 3, Playstation 4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One
