Rumors come and go, and most people can shrug them off recognizing that they mean nothing. This is something that the creator of Game of Thrones has to deal with on a daily basis. But when things go too far for even George RR Martin, rumors must be squashed.
Idiocy on the Internet…Parts 1,2, and 3 attempting to shut down rumors: https://t.co/gQVr6opi1E – https://t.co/aWOHPeCr15 – https://t.co/JbQMUfdXog

Martin took to twitter to “shut down” rumors about the last two books in the Song of Fire and Ice series, confirming that neither are complete, with ‘A Dream of Spring‘ not even having been started yet.
“I will, however, say for the record — no, THE WINDS OF WINTER and A DREAM OF SPRING are not finished. DREAM is not even begun; I am not going to start writing volume seven until I finish volume six”
You can read the full blog post from Martin on his personal website here, and you can see for yourself the frustration that the author has to deal with. Sometimes things can get a little out of hand on the internet, and when they do, venting seems to help, no matter who you are.
“The world is round, the Earth revolves around the sun, water is wet… do I need to say that too?”
On the blog, Martin ends the post with something that I am personally not trying to read into.
“So… no, the books are not done. HBO did not ask me to delay them. Nor did David & Dan. There is no “deal” to hold back on the books. I assure you, HBO and David & Dan would both have been thrilled and delighted if THE WINDS OF WINTER had been delivered and published four or five years ago… and NO ONE would have been more delighted than me” says Martin.
For me, as an individual fan of Game of Thrones in both the show and the books, I look at a quote like this and feel like George RR Martin is saying that DND would have been thrilled because they would have more source material to work off of, instead of ruining the show’s final season.
In a separate post, George adds that there was yet another rumor that he hated the character Bronn, and the actor who portrays him, Jerome Flynn. He states that the idea of hating a character he himself made, and the actor are both nothing more than “loony stories” and “total bullshit”.
I created Bronn, so it would be immodest of me to say he’s a terrific character… but what the hell, he’s a terrific character, and my readers will definitely be seeing more of him in the books to come.
We had not heard the rumors about Bronn nor Flynn, but interesting that this had swelled up to the point that Martin had to address it. The author ended that blog post stating that Flynn is “wonderful”, which we agree.
It is great to see George RR Martin shutting down rumors, but it is so disappointing to know that we are so far away from getting the ending to the series that we, the fans, deserve. Oh well, you know what they say; good things come to those who wait.
