A couple of bad guys from Guardians will be joining him too.
Everyone’s favorite Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is finally returning to the MCU!
Well, kind of.
Yesterday, Marvel Studios announced that full production on Captain Marvel has begun, and alongside that announcement, a new synopsis and cast list for the film was released.

First here’s the synopsis:
Based on the Marvel comic character first appearing in 1968, the story follows Carol Danvers as she becomes one of the universe’s most powerful heroes when Earth is caught in the middle of a galactic war between two alien races. Set in the 1990s, “Captain Marvel” is an all-new adventure from a previously unseen period in the history of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Ok we already knew all of that, but here’s the cast list:
The film stars Academy Award® winner Brie Larson, Samuel L. Jackson, Ben Mendelsohn, Djimon Hounsou, Lee Pace, Lashana Lynch, Gemma Chan, Algenis Perez Soto, Rune Temte, McKenna Grace, with Clark Gregg, and Jude Law.
That’s right, Clark Gregg, aka Phil Coulson! Since we’re going back to the ’90s and we’re going to see a younger Nick Fury, it looks like we’re going to meet a younger Agent Coulson too.
The last time we saw Coulson in the MCU was when he appeared to have been killed by Loki during The Avengers (never forget), but since then he was revived and has starred on ABC’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D for five seasons now. It’s been years, but it’s finally time for Coulson’s return to the big screen!
Also, eagle-eyed MCU fans might have also noticed on the cast list that Djimon Hounsou and Lee Pace will be starring in Captain Marvel as well. Both actors previously appeared as the villains Korath and Ronan the Accuser, respectively, in Guardians of the Galaxy back in 2014. Well it looks like we’re going to see those two again, and it makes sense, as Captain Marvel’s origin story is tied to the Kree race, and Ronan is a radical Kree no doubt a part of the Kree/Skrull war featured in the film.
One more thing, I already went ahead and googled for you what Clark Gregg looked like in the ’90s.
Keep it together ladies.
Captain Marvel flies into theaters on March 8, 2019.
