We know they want to get a Batman solo film right, but at this rate, they might as well just give up.
[dropcap size=small]I[/dropcap]f you haven’t been keeping tabs on the Batman solo film project here is a quick recap. Ben Affleck stepped down as director, at which point he said he wouldn’t do anything with the film until everything was perfect. Shortly afterward Matt Reeves was appointed to the project as the new director and the script was supposedly nearly finished. Sounds like Warner Bros. finally had their stuff together and they could get the ball rolling, right? NOPE.
We already knew that The Batman would be delayed because of all of this and there was the possibility (which turned out to be true) that Matt Reeves’ commitment to other projects like War For the Planet of the Apes would cause another delay. What no one could foresee was the project being delayed again. Last month, it was reported that Warner Bros. was considering a “fresh start” for the screenplay. Then, a day after, it was reported that the studio and everyone involved was happy with the final draft. But now, the entire script for The Batman is being rewritten from the very beginning. Are you seeing a pattern here?
All things considered, this might be a good thing for The Batman. It seems that Warner Bros. has (hopefully) realized that they can’t just crank out half-assed projects based on their DC comic book properties and generate a profit. All things considered, Batman v Superman was an absolute disaster in terms of what it could have been and in terms of what it should have been. But, with Zack Snyder not involved in The Batman there is a little bit of breathing room. So with Ben Affleck stepping down from the role of director the guy can hopefully do an even better job in The Batman than he did in Batman v Superman (which wasn’t that bad to begin with) and Matt Reeves will be able to bring to life a DC film that we’ve all been waiting for anxiously. We just have to wait a little longer.
