Square Enix may be SWITCHing it up with their MMORPG.
[dropcap size=small]A[/dropcap]ccording to The Sixth Axis (via IGN), Final Fantasy XIV producer Naoki Yoshida revealed that Square Enix may be bringing the online MMORPG to the Nintendo Switch.
Yoshida discussed the possibility of bringing FFXIV to the Switch during the Final Fantasy Fan Festival at Frankfurt last week, during which he reportedly shed some light on the team’s hopes of bringing the game to as many platforms as possible, including Nintendo’s upcoming hybrid console.
The Sixth Axis: ‘The development team’s key aim is to bring the game to as many platforms as possible, with the main limitation that they absolutely don’t want to create a boxed off version of the game that can’t interact with the others. If that could be overcome then they’d be very interested in discussing a Switch port.’
The MMORPG already has a home on PS3, PS4 and PC, and word on the game grapevine suggests plans have been circulating about the possibility of bringing the title to Xbox One as well.
Since we don’t yet know what online support is going to be like for the Switch, it’ll be interesting to see just how well a game like FFXIV will play on the new console.
Whilst we won’t likely be seeing a Switch port of Final Fantasy XIV for some time if it goes ahead, PlayStation and PC players can look forward to the upcoming Stormblood expansion coming June 20.
The Nintendo Switch is set for release March 3, 2017.
