DC’s Booster Gold Film is Happening, May Not Connect to DC Cinematic Universe

Looks like Booster’s not getting invited to join the Extended DC Cinematic Universe.

[dropcap size=small]D[/dropcap]C’s Booster Gold will be getting his very own standalone film, which isn’t so surpisring given all the recent chatter surrounding the futuristic hero’s solo debut. But what is surprising is that the film will reportedly not be a part of the current Extended DC Cinematic Universe.

In an interview with Vulture (via Slashfilm), director Greg Berlanti (The Flash, Arrow) revealed Gold’s solo movie is going to “be a separate thing”:

“As of right now we have no connective tissue to those worlds.”

Given that DC are trying to establish a cinematic ‘verse to rival the current MCU, it seems quite strange to disconnect Booster from the proceedings – most especially since a Justice League movie is in the works, and Gold has been a member in past comic book arcs.

Whilst it appears Booster won’t be teaming up the other League members (including the likes of Aquaman, The Flash and Wonderwoman), at least Berlanti will have more creative freedom since he won’t have to worry about connecting the story-line to the DC Cinematic ‘Verse.

Regardless of this development, we’re still glad to see Booster make an appearance, even if it does turn out to be a separate project. The film will without a shadow of a doubt be one of DC’s funnier productions, and Booster’s signature goofiness will surely lighten up the current DC line-up.

So far no one has been cast as the time-travelling-star-athlete-turned-superhero, but Nathan Fillion has registered his interest in the role, and we certainly wouldn’t complain if that came to fruition.

With Booster taking to the big screens, the question of whether or not we’ll see Blue Beetle join in and add more humour to the mix still hangs in the air. Since talk about a Booster/Beetle movie was circulating last year, it could very well happen.

We really would love to the see the duo come together and get up to some mischief at some point.

The Booster Gold standalone film is currently scheduled to hit cinemas sometime in 2018.
