Get ready for some cyberpunk tunes.

[dropcap size=small]T[/dropcap]he cult classic anime movie, adapted from the equally celebrated manga, has been rumoured to be in development as a feature from hollywood for years. However, this news does not pertain to the long dormant project. Fans of Akira will be delighted to hear that Geinoh Yamashirogumi’s soundtrack is set for an official reissue on vinyl. Milan Records tweeted the news recently though no official date of release was attached for ‘Akira Symphonic Suite’.

For the uninitiated, Akira follows futuristic bikers in a dystopian Tokyo in 2019, the main protagonist being one of the biker gang’s young members, whom also possesses psychic abilities. It was released July of 1988, directed by the original manga creator himself, Katsuhiro Ōtomo. The anime film is regarded as being iconic by those well versed in all things manga, anime, and sci-fi. Furthermore, many believe a great deal is owed to the sublime original soundtrack by Yamashirogumi. Contrary to how the process is traditionally done, the soundtrack was composed and recorded prior to production starting. Meaning animators and the rest of the team worked around the music when structuring the movie.

For those fans who will be picking up the vinyl reissue, there is no need to preach the merits and nostalgia of it, but for all others you can hear the classic soundtrack practically anywhere online (Youtube, SoundCloud etc.).

‘Akira Symphonic Suite’ tracklist:
01. Kaneda
02. Tetsuo
03. Ohjifuchi
04. Exodus From The Underground Fortress

05. Requiem
